I looked up to JC when I first came into the sport. I was happy to finish runner up to him in 1976 (above when I was 19). I saw him off 2 years later. I coached him for a few years in the early 80s. I thought we had lost him on at least two occasions - he collapsed in the 1984 End to End Walk and again at Dermot's book launch in 2005. I can't believe John Cannell will be in the Parish Walk 51 years after he first entered; or that he has mastered modern technology to enter so quickly!
